RESEARCH
LLRI engages in a variety of research
projects, all motivated by
problems of education. Some LLRI projects are funded by foundations and
government agencies (e.g., LLRI currently has grants from the U.S.
Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences and from the
National Science Foundation). Other projects are internally funded, by
LessonLab, and are designed to inform the development and improvement
of LessonLab's programs for teacher learning and school improvement.
All projects are designed and conducted by LessonLab's research
scientists, in collaboration with researchers around the globe. In
addition, LessonLab is the hub of a growing network of independent
researchers doing research on the improvement of teaching and learning
in classrooms: the LessonLab Research Network.
We invite you to explore these projects, and the
work of affiliated members of the LessonLab Research Network. And,
check out our largest and most recently completed project: the TIMSS
1999 Video Study of mathematics and science teaching in seven
countries.
TIMSS
“Trends in International Mathematics & Science
Study” - A cross-national study of eighth-grade classroom
mathematics and science teaching. The study involves videotaping and
analyzing teaching practices in more than one thousand classrooms in
various countries. In conjunction with the International Association of
the Evaluation of Education Achievement (IEA), the study is being
conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S.
Department of Education under a contract with LessonLab, Inc. of Los
Angeles, California.
