CATHY
CHEN, Ph.D.
Associate Research Scientist. Cathy is currently
working on two NSF-funded studies, Science Teachers Learning from
Lesson Analysis (STeLLA), of which is she is Co-Principal Investigator,
and Videocases for Science Teaching Analysis (ViSTA). She had also
worked on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)
1999 Video Study of eighth-grade science teaching, having served as the
U.S. Country Representative and Director of Public Release Lessons.
Prior to joining LLRI, Cathy was a tenure-track Assistant Professor at
Cal State University, Long Beach where she taught the elementary
science methods courses. She earned her doctorate in 2000 from the
University of California, Santa Barbara, where her studies focused on
ethnography, discourse analysis, and sociocultural issues in science
education. Her research interests cover science teacher education and
professional development, analysis of practice through the use of
videocases, and qualitative research methodology.
